Vikings’ Kevin O’Connell Puts $7 Million Starter on Notice

Following the breakout performance of Ty Chandler, a second-year running back for the Minnesota Vikings,

head coach Kevin O'Connell questioned whether or not Alexander Mattison should continue to be the team's starting quarterback.

On Saturday, December 16, Chandler had his first start of his professional career and piled up 132 rushing yards on 23 runs.

However, the Bengals were able to defeat the Arizona Cardinals 27-24 in overtime.

Being the first player on the club to rush for 100 yards or more in a single game this season is a long time coming for a running game that ranks 23rd in yardage through 15 weeks.

He accomplished this feat by rushing for 100 yards or more.

When asked about Chandler's role and whether or not he would start even after Mattison recovers from an ankle injury that kept him out of action last week,

O'Connell did not hint that Mattison would regain the starting role. Instead, he stated that it will depend "scheme-wise" who they start going forward
