The unsettling performance of "Vampire" by Olivia Rodrigo on "Colbert"

Olivia Rodrigo made a surprise appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert one week prior,

when she sang her hit song "Vampire," from The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes.

Presumably recorded on the same day as her previous performance, Rodrigo took the stage surrounded by tall microphone stands ,

and mist while wearing a black off-the-shoulder dress. For more drama, four string players and a pianist joined her.

On NPR Tiny Desk last week, Rodrigo described her creative process for "Vampire,"

saying, "I wrote the initial idea in like 20 or 30 minutes." "However, my producer and I kind of just spent a month or two fine-tuning,

obsessing over crazy details like chord voicings and BPM,

and making sure every lyric was exactly right for what we wanted to achieve." I'm rather pleased with how it came out."
