"The Color Purple" comes out in theaters on Christmas Day, starring Fantasia Barrino, who is from North Carolina.

Alice Walker wrote both the book and the Broadway show that the musical drama is based on.

There are famous stars in it, like Fantasia Barrino, Taraji P. Henson, Danielle Brooks, David Allan Grier, and even Whoopi Goldberg.

Steven Spielberg, Quincy Jones, and Oprah Winfrey, who acted in the movie version in 1985, are among the producers.

Barrino plays Celie in the new movie. In the Broadway version of the show from 2005 to 2008, right after she won "American Idol" in 2003, Fantasia played Celie. This is her second time playing the part.

The movie was shown at the Regal Stonecrest at Piper Glen on Saturday, and Barrino and other stars were there.

Barrino told WCNC Charlotte that having the showing in her home state of North Carolina instead of Los Angeles "means so much more."

"The Color Purple" is now playing in movie theaters all over the country.

Flashpoint is a show with host Ben Thompson that goes deep into politics every week in Charlotte, North Carolina, South Carolina, and other places.
